The Price Kids Pay visual narratives

I worked closely with the reporters to select, conceptualize, and draw visual narratives communicating student and parent experiences of kids getting ticketed by police for disorderly conduct and other disciplinary measures at school. The series focuses on financial and emotional impacts on students and their families. Read the first story here.

The second story in the Price Kids Pay series focuses on racial disparities that the reporters found in school ticketing data. They found that Black students were disproportionately ticketed and fined when compared to white students. My comics illustrate the experiences of two different Black students who were ticketed, and target the role that school administrators play in seeking out police ticketing for student misbehavior.
